A new and exciting opportunity has arisen within

Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind. 

Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind is supporting a volunteer-led project in local prisons and community settings. 

 

What is the Criminal Justice & Mental Health Project? 

This is a new volunteer-led project. One of our first projects we have established is a counselling service in Holme House Prison.  Volunteers will go into prison on a regular basis and at set times to provide a Person-Centred counselling service to offenders with mental health problems.  The length of time spent with any one prisoner will be agreed at the initial meeting depending on their individual needs and regularly reviewed.  Holme House Prison is a category B male prison. As our service develops, there will be opportunities to work in other Criminal Justice Settings.  All volunteers will volunteer within Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind’s community services as part of their induction. until such time as the prison clearance is granted. 

As a Volunteer Counsellor within a prison setting you will: 

  • provide a confidential, one to one person-centred counselling service for offenders liaise with the service co-ordinator attend regular operational supervision have an external counselling supervisor work within the BACP Ethical Framework and Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind’s policies and procedures.
  • Agree to undertake an Enhance CRB check and prison security clearance.

To become a volunteer you must be at least 18 years old, have an interest in working with people with mental health problems within a criminal justice setting and be able to make a commitment to volunteering for a reasonable length of time.
