Vision

The vision of the Mind network is of a society that promotes and protects good mental health for all, and that treats people with experience of mental distress fairly, positively, and with respect.

Purpose

Middlesbrough Mind’s purpose is to increase understanding of mental health and well-being and to provide information and support to anyone affected by mental distress.

Mission

Our mission is to:

  • Increase awareness and understanding of mental health and well-being

  • Provide effective, recovery-based services for people who experience mental distress and their families

  • Engage people who experience mental distress and their families in improving services

  • Campaign for social justice for people who experience mental distress and their families.

Beliefs

Middlesbrough Mind believes that:

  • people should be treated with respect

  • people should be offered choice in their care

  • people should be offered equal access to services based on their needs

  • care should be individual and holistic, taking into account a person’s social, economic and cultural background, lifestyle and preferences

  • people should be actively involved in all decisions about their care

  • people should be supported towards independence and recovery from mental distress

  • people who experience mental distress should be included within their communities as equals.

Strategic aims for 2007 - 2010

We have six strategic aims:

  • To support more people through Middlesbrough Mind’s existing services

  • To support more people through the development of new services

  • To support more people who experience mental distress and their families to influence policy and decision-makers

  • To increase public awareness and understanding of mental health and well-being

  • To campaign for better services and social justice for people who experience mental distress and their families

  • To become a more responsive, effective, efficient, successful and sustainable organisation.
